Manchester United are still yet to sign starlet Angel Gomes to a new contract amid doubts over his future at Old Trafford continue to grow.
The 19-year-old is believed to be have been wanted by both Barcelona and Chelsea over the past year.
Gomes’ current deal with the Red Devils expires this summer, giving us just a couple of weeks to seal a new deal before he can walk away for nothing.
The Manchester Evening News understand that the teenager wants guaranteed first team football in order to stay, whilst he only made three starts for us this term before the COVID-19 disruption – all in the Europa League group stage. Gomes made just a pair of Premier League substitute appearances, totaling 19 minutes – versus West Ham United in September and Norwich City in January.
The arrival of Bruno Fernandes at the end of January further limited Gomes’ first team opportunities and he subsequently didn’t make a single appearance following the Portuguese ace’s signing.
Angel Gomes has been one of the highest-rated youngsters currently in Nicky Butt’s Manchester United youth team and became the first player born this millennium to make a Premier League appearance for any club, when he came on as a late substitute for Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace on the final day of the season in May 2017.
It would be disappointing to lose such a young talent on a free transfer, particularly if it were to be to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The attacking midfielder has represented England at all youth levels between the ages of 16 and 20.
