Man Utd seriously considering signing Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon on loan

Manchester United are seriously considering signing Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon on loan, according to The Athletic.

With a deal for Chelsea player Marc Cucurella complicated following his appearance in the Carabao Cup last night, United are looking elsewhere.

If the Red Devils want the option of sending the Blues left-back back to his parent club in January when Luke Shaw and Tyrrell Malacia are fit, he would no longer be eligible to appear for a third club this season due to the rules.

Nevertheless, a deal for Cucurella is not dead in the water, with the decision to be based on footballing and financial reasons given their ongoing pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

However, Man United are considering other options as manager Erik ten Hag wants to get another left-back in before the transfer deadline on Friday.

Reguilon is yet to feature for Spurs this term and was on loan with Atletico Madrid last term, ending his time in the La Liga club with zero goals and assists in 12 appearances.

The 26-year-old is not in the plans of Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou but has the qualities to excel under Ten Hag at Old Trafford given his style of play.

The Spain international is comfortable on the ball and can deliver perfect crosses into the box from his wing.

Reguilon has seen his stocks dwindle but could rediscover the form that helped him make the  Europa League Squad of the Season in 2020 after helping Sevilla win the competition if he moves to Man United.

The Red Devils only have the versatile Diogo Dalot and 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez as options at left-back right now, and they cannot afford to head into the remainder of the campaign without bolstering their options in the position.
