Man Utd ‘serious’ about offer for teenage sensation

Two days ago it was widely reported that Manchester United had failed in an £89 million bid for Barcelona’s teenage sensation, Ansu Fati.

Injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele saw the 17-year-old involved in more games than the Spanish giants had been expecting in 2019-20.

Fati had made 16 La Liga appearances (7 starts) in all, scoring four goals, as well as a further four appearances in the Champions League (1 start) before football was suspended.

His talent is evident and he is already in the Barcelona record books as their youngest-ever La Liga goalscorer and is also the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history.

Manchester United’s interest appears very serious. In fact, those are the exact words used by Spanish outlet Sport today:

The article goes on to report that Borussia Dortmund were the most interested in the forward but failed to reach an agreement.

Presumably, the German club would see Fati as a replacement for Jadon Sancho, who is strongly linked to a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Sport say that Manchester United made a ‘first offer’ of €100 million (£89m) that was rejected by the La Liga champions.

It goes on to state that we are willing to reach ‘dizzying figures’ in order to sign the teenager. He currently has a €170 million (£150m) release clause in his contract.

The Spanish season restarts tonight, with Barcelona’s first game back being away to RCD Mallorca this Saturday. It will be interesting to see if Ansu Fati is involved given the likes of Suarez and Dembele have had three months to recover from their injuries.

Barcelona are also interested in Internazionale striker Lautaro Martinez, so could see a potential sale of Fati as a way of funding a deal for the Argentinian.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t have a regular right winger at Manchester United currently so we are in a position to offer the Spanish under-21 regular playing time.
