Man Utd ‘really close’ to signing Andre Onana – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are ‘really close’ to signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils opened talks with the Nerazzurri for the 27-year-old last week, and they have already made multiple transfer bids.

Their recent offer of €45 million plus €5m was turned down by the Nerazzurri, but United are edging closer to an agreement.

It has been reported that a deal could be agreed for €55m and as per Romano, a final bid is expected to ‘arrive soon’ from United.

The Italian journalist claims that a transfer will be sealed by the ‘end of next week’. Personal terms have already been agreed.

United want Onana to travel with them for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Onana to United only a matter of time

Onana is widely regarded as one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers in world football.

He was a key player under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax for over four years before securing a free transfer to Inter last summer.

Onana had a wonderful debut season in Italian football with 20 clean sheets, but he was also impressive with other attributes.

The Cameroonian completed 78 per cent of his passes per appearance with six long balls.

He was also brilliant with his positioning and ability to make high claims. Onana should be a perfect signing for United.

Onana, who is currently on €74,000-a-week, is familiar with Ten Hag’s playing style and could adapt very quickly next term.

We saw Lisandro Martinez and Antony make an immediate impact last season after joining from Ajax.

The same should be the case with Onana, who would be a big upgrade on David de Gea.

The 27-year-old also has the ability to operate as a sweeper-keeper, and likes to command possession of the ball regularly.
