Manchester United are ready to make a fresh move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot whose contract expires in the summer of 2024, as per Calciomercato.
The Frenchman was linked with the Red Devils earlier this summer, but he was convinced to extend his stay with Juventus for another year on the same salary.
The 28-year-old is unlikely to do the same next summer. Calciomercato reveal that the midfielder wants a pay rise in order to put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal.
Furthermore, his prospects of staying with the Bianconeri also depends on the club staying in contention for Champions League football over the coming months.
The Serie A outfit are looking to sort out his future before the New Year as Rabiot would be free to negotiate a pre-contract with a foreign club from January.
United and Newcastle are reportedly ready to knock on Rabiot’s door again.
Man Utd could attempt to sign Rabiot on a free transfer
Rabiot has been a top target for manager Erik ten Hag since his appointment last year.
The Dutch tactician personally spoke with the World Cup finalist to convince him over a move in August 2022. A fee was agreed with Juventus, but a deal fell through due to differences in personal terms.
Rabiot went on to have a superb campaign in Italy with 11 goals and six assists for the Bianconeri. He has continued the good form this term with one goal and two assists thus far.
In our opinion, we won’t be surprised if United approach to sign him on a free transfer. Ten Hag is an admirer of the midfielder’s talents and could urge the hierarchy to rejoin the pursuit.
A move may obviously depend on Champions League qualification. United are currently five points behind the Premier League top four and bottom of their Champions League group.
