Man Utd reach agreement with midfielder for summer transfer

Marouane Fellaini’s future at Manchester United has been in doubt for a number of months.  The Belgian international is in the final five months of his contract with no sign of agreeing an extension at Old Trafford.

A move to Turkey has been rumoured since last year, initially with Besiktas strongly linked with the midfielder.

However, Turkish outlet Aksam are today reporting that Galatasaray are close to signing Fellaini on a free transfer from us over the summer.  In fact, the report even says that an agreement is already in place and a deal is all but sealed.

Marouane Fellaini is currently sidelined after undergoing knee surgery and is not due back until April.  The 30-year-old has been plagued by injuries this season, only making 12 Premier League appearances (3 starts) and featuring in two Champions League group stage matches (1 start), partly as a result.

As he is within the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford he is free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs.

Following the sale of Badou Ndiaye to Stoke City last month, Galatasaray are looking for a replacement for the midfielder and appear to have identified Fellaini as their target.  Given that they sold the 27-year-old for around £14 million, signing Fellaini on a free transfer may allow them to offer the Belgian a favourable salary.

One would think if Jose Mourinho and the hierarchy were keen to keen to keep Marouane Fellaini at Manchester United then a deal would have been agreed by now.  Losing Fellaini wouldn’t be a huge deal for us as he is nothing more than an alternative option to us.  We already have better players in Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the holding midfield role, whilst we have been linked to several other top central midfielders this month alone.
