Manchester United players returned to training earlier this week as stage one of the Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’. The ambition is to complete the 2019-20 campaign this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co are taking it seriously as a resumption is expected after Germany have their top tiers back underway following five weeks of training. The UK government have also given the green light for sport to be resumed from 1 June.
Now the Manchester Evening News are reporting that we have already selected our provisional squad for the final nine games of our campaign.
We have a fully fit squad back in training meaning that everyone is currently available to the manager for any resumption of play in the coming weeks. This includes both Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba, whom had been sidelined with injuries when the Premier League was suspended on 13 March.
Rashford’s return is an interesting one as we’d loaned Odion Ighalo at the end of the winter transfer window as his replacement. The Nigerian striker had scored four goals in his eight appearances so it will be interesting to see if the former Watford man will be in Solskjaer’s books if/when the season restarts. His initial loan deal is set to expire on 31 May, whilst the season would certainly go into July at least, and potentially August too.
Ighalo is one of the 29 players that MEN have included in Manchester United’s provisional squad with no real surprises. Angel Gomes is included, despite reports that the youngster is not going to sign a contract extension when it expires in a couple of weeks.
The full provisional squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Nathan Bishop
Defenders: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Brandon Williams
Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Fred, Bruno Fernandes, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong
Attackers: Daniel James, Odion Ighalo, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford
