Manchester United are prepared to cash in on defender Harry Maguire amid Serie A interest, according to talkSPORT.
The England international lost his captaincy to Bruno Fernandes last summer and he was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
However, the 31-year-old was determined to fight for his future. He turned down a proposal from West Ham United to stay with the Red Devils.
Maguire was in-and-out of the line-up last season due to competition and injuries, but he still impressed with four goals and two assists from 31 outings.
The centre-back has now entered the final year of his contract at United and talkSPORT claim that he could be sold with interest from Serie A.
Man Utd should keep Maguire next season
United currently have Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Willy Kambwala as their specialist centre-backs after Raphael Varane’s free transfer.
Jonny Evans’ contract expired on June 30 and he has yet to agree to a new short-term deal.
United appear to be eyeing two new centre-backs for next season with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern’s Matthijs de Ligt being the top targets.
Should the duo arrive, there could be at least one departure. Maguire has been linked with an exit, but the club may focus on offloading Lindelof.
Maguire, who was praised by Ten Hag for his ‘massive‘ performance at Fulham last year, has a 12-month extension clause present in his current deal.
On the other hand, Lindelof’s contract has already been extended with a clause. The Swede’s deal expires in June 2025 and no contract talks are planned.
In our view, it is most likely that the former Benfica star could head for the exit door. Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a reunion with him.
