Man Utd prepare to hold talks with free-agent Adrien Rabiot

Manchester United are ready to hold talks with one of France’s best midfielders, according to Daily Star.

The Red Devils have bolstered their midfield department with the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. He is expected to make his debut after the international break.

Despite this, the club continue to be linked with a move for Adrien Rabiot, who is a free-agent after parting ways with Juventus following the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

Daily Star claim that United have received a ‘massive boost’ in the pursuit of Rabiot, who has already turned down lucrative offers from the Turkish Super Lig and Saudi Pro League.

United bosses will hold talks with Rabiot, who came close to joining the club in 2022. Manager Erik ten Hag is aiming to improve his midfield options for a long and demanding season.

Rabiot deal appears unlikely due to demands

The France international was offered to United in July and August, but the club’s hierarchy opted against signing him. They made a huge outlay on Ugarte before the transfer deadline.

This has not ended the speculation linking him with United. In our view, the Red Devils are unlikely to change their stance unless Rabiot lowers his current demands on the table.

Rabiot is represented by his mother Veronique and Calciomercato report that the Juventus star wants a package of £162,000 per week and a huge signing-on fee of £12.66 million.

With the midfielder turning 30 in April next year, United are unlikely to spend that much.

The Red Devils have changed their transfer policy under INEOS with the focus on younger players, but could go ahead with a deal if Rabiot accepts a significantly lower signing-on fee.

Rabiot, who has been lauded as ‘world-class‘ by David Trezequet, would be a good acquisition for his tackling and duel winning skills, but he is not the best with the ball at his feet.
