Manchester United are eager to sign their top midfield target before the transfer deadline.
The Red Devils have already agreed personal terms with midfielder Manuel Ugarte and talks are underway with Paris Saint-Germain to negotiate a suitable transfer deal.
As per The Telegraph, United want to sign Ugarte outright this summer and they are prepared to pay €50 million (£42.6m) to secure an agreement with Les Parisiens.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain continue to hold out for their €60m (£51.2m) asking price and negotiations are ongoing between the clubs over the gap in valuation.
The Ligue 1 holders are keen to recoup the fee paid to Sporting CP last year. They have offered United the chance to sign Ugarte on loan with an obligation to buy next summer.
United likely to seal Ugarte deal soon
The new hierarchy under INEOS have had an impressive summer transfer window.
The signings of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have added more optimism that United can qualify for the Champions League next term.
The board still need to bolster the squad further. A marquee defensive midfielder in the form of Ugarte would strengthen the club’s chances of a strong Premier League finish.
The 23-year-old is a brilliant ball-playing midfielder with fine defensive attributes. He had a passing accuracy of 91 percent last term with 3.9 tackles and 6.4 recoveries per game.
The Uruguayan, who has been described as ‘tireless‘ by PSG’s official website, also made over seven ball recoveries per outing. He was likewise exceptional with his work rate.
Ugarte would be an upgrade on Casemiro who has shown signs of regression. United look on course to sign him one way or another. It could be a permanent transfer or a loan with a buy obligation.
