Manchester United

Man Utd playing 3-4-3 tonight?

Jose Mourinho has named three centre-backs in the starting lineup as Manchester United face CSKA Moscow in Russia this evening.

Either team would be guaranteed top spot in Group A with a win whilst a draw will be enough for us to end the second round of games in pole position on goal difference.

The team that the boss has named is as follows:

David de Gea
Victor Lindelof
Eric Bailly
Chris Smalling
Ashley Young
Ander Herrera
Nemanja Matic
Daley Blind
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Romelu Lukaku
Anthony Martial

It’s anyone’s guess as to what formation we’re playing – 3-4-1-2, 3-4-3, 5-3-2 etc., but UEFA’s official teamsheet has us down as playing a 3-4-3 this evening:

With Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all sidelined and left back home in England, Ander Herrera gets to partner Nemanja Matic in the centre of midfield this evening, with 20-year-old Scott McTominay the backup option among the substitutes.

Mourinho has plenty of options to change things around during the game with both the versatility among the players in the starting lineup and the likes of Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford among the substitutes; all capable of playing more than one position.
