Man Utd plan meeting with Julian Alvarez’s agent

Manchester United plan to hold a meeting with Julian Alvarez’s agent ahead of a potential move for the Argentine, TyC Sports claims.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the best young forwards in Argentina. He has been exceptional for River Plate over the past 12 months.

Alvarez bagged 24 goals since the beginning of the year, and it appears United are keen on luring him to the Premier League.

Argentina outlet Ole recently claimed that United made an enquiry to River Plate. It is now reported that talks are planned with his representative.

Agent Fernando Hidalgo is due to travel to Europe to discuss with interested clubs next month. United are expected to discuss a potential transfer.

River Plate don’t have any plans to sell Alvarez. Any interested club will have to trigger the €20 million release clause in his contract.

Our view:

Alvarez has made immense progress over the past 12 months. His progress has seen him become a regular with Argentina. He has five caps since his debut in June.

The youngster does not possess an aerial presence at 173 cm, but he is excellent with his ground work, averaging two key passes and two take-ons per league game.

He is a potent goalscoring threat but has also chipped in with a stunning 15 assists this year. Alvarez also does not shy away from his defensive work, having won one tackle per game.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick will make way for a new head coach in the summer, but the German could still have a big say on the proceedings after agreeing a consultancy role.

Rangnick may want the new manager to deploy a similar high-pressing style of football.

Alvarez would be a quality addition to the squad. He has been compared to Sergio Aguero.

With Alvarez already a regular with Argentina, a work permit may not prove an issue.

United may want to sign him at the earliest opportunity to avoid further transfer interest.

Alvarez could come in as a potential replacement for Anthony Martial, who has been touted to leave for Sevilla.

The La Liga club are close to negotiating a loan deal with a buy option.
