Manchester United have opened talks with Chelsea over an exciting swap deal before the transfer deadline, according to The Telegraph.
The Red Devils are prepared to part ways with Jadon Sancho this summer, and Chelsea are reportedly interested in swapping Raheem Sterling for the 24-year-old.
Sporting director Dan Ashworth opened talks with the Blues earlier today over a swap deal involving Sterling and Sancho, but United will only progress on their own terms.
The Red Devils are determined to take advantage of Sterling’s situation. They are planning to sign him as a makeweight, with Chelsea paying a transfer fee for Sancho instead.
Sterling and Sancho could swap clubs before deadline
Sterling was a regular part of pre-season for the Blues, but he has now been deemed surplus to requirements. They recently handed his shirt number to Pedro Neto.
He is now expected to leave before the transfer window closes, as he would have to train with the Under-21s if he stays beyond the deadline.
United are also actively looking to offload Sancho after his pre-season involvement. With Ashworth opening talks, the English duo may swap clubs.
However, a deal could depend on the Blues accepting United’s demands. The Red Devils value Sancho at £40 million and may want at least £20m alongside Sterling from Chelsea.
Sterling may also need to accept a significant pay cut on his huge £300,000 per week salary. Both of those requirements could be met in the coming days.
