Manchester United sent an official to monitor Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee during the 2-1 win over Atalanta at the weekend.
The Dutchman has had a fantastic second season with the Serie A outfit and he bagged his 11th goal from the penalty spot on Sunday.
Aside from this, the 22-year-old has also registered six assists for Bologna, who are currently placed fourth in the Italian top-flight.
His performances have caught the eye of several clubs and Tuttosport claim that United sent an emissary to watch him against Atalanta.
This has not gone unnoticed as per the outlet. United would still need to pay a premium fee to prise him away from Bologna this summer.
Bologna have set a price tag of €60 million for a player who cost them €8.5m two years ago.
The Italian club have set a high asking price for their prized asset as Bayern have a buyback clause worth €40m alongside a 50 per cent sell-on clause.
Zirkzee speculation could be agent-driven
The Dutchman has had a good season with Bologna. He has 17 goal contributions from 29 outings.
Aside from his goal involvements, he has had a good passing accuracy and has excelled with his dribbling.
His ability to link-up play and clever movements into the box are among his main strengths.
Zirkzee is making a name for himself for Bologna, but we believe the speculation could be agent-driven.
United are likely to pursue a back-up striker this summer who can support Rasmus Hojlund.
However, they may not make a huge outlay, considering the Dane would be an assured starter if he is injury-free.
€60m is a huge sum for a back-up striker and we would instead prefer the club to sign Serhou Guirassy for €17.5m.
Unless Bologna lower their demands to €40m, the Red Devils should avoid making an approach for the Dutchman.
His representatives are currently working hard to drive up the valuation. United’s name is being used to do the same.
