Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez in a cut-price deal, according to reports.
The 28-year-old has been a fringe player at the Santiago Bernabeu this season following a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich.
Rodriguez was signed by the Spanish giants following an impressive 2014 World Cup campaign which saw him win the Golden Boot award as top scorer.
The Sun are claiming we could sign the Colombian in a cut-price deal as his contract begins to run down and that Rodriguez has been a long-term target of the Red Devils.
The report goes on to say that Real Madrid are worried that the midfielder’s stock price has plummeted and that they would be prepared to cash in on him for cheap.
One huge stumbling block for Manchester United or any reported suitor could be the player’s £250,000-a-week contract.
James Rodriguez is clearly not in Zinedine Zidane’s plans for the future but whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would even be interested in him has to be questioned.
We already have Bruno Fernandes in the central attacking midfield role where Rodriguez has performed best. Given his wage, injuries in recent seasons and dip in form over the past couple of years, it doesn’t seem like a valuable option to us.
What’s more, the Norwegian boss is more likely to fill other positions in the transfer marketing this summer – mainly on the right wing, central defence and holding midfield.
