Man Utd need to find replacement for Casemiro who was below-par vs Liverpool

Manchester United need to find a replacement for midfielder Casemiro this summer after another below-par performance against Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Red Devils picked up a 2-2 draw against their arch-rivals at Old Trafford yesterday, but the result could have been entirely different, had the visitors been more clinical up front.

Jurgen Klopp’s side registered 15 shots on goal to none in the opening half, but United still managed to salvage a draw after two stellar strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

While the result was a positive one after a poor first half, United may need to recruit a new defensive midfielder this summer after another poor showing from Casemiro.

The Brazil international has been inconsistent and short of pace in his second season at the club, and it was quite evident yesterday where he was regularly bypassed with ease.

The 32-year-old registered four tackles and six clearances, but the negatives outweighed the positives.

He lost possession on 16 occasions and won just five out of 11 duels (46 per cent). He was also dribbled past thrice and completed just 69 per cent of his passes in the derby.

As things stand, Casemiro is the club’s best solution in the number six role. Mainoo has been more effective in the number eight position where he can create and score goals.

The Brazilian should continue to keep his place in the coming weeks ahead of Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat, but United need to find his successor at the end of the season.

In our view, Benfica’s Joao Neves would be an ideal replacement for the €30 million-rated star.

The 19-year-old is fantastic with the ball at his feet and has a passing accuracy of 90 per cent. He has also excelled with his tackling, duel winning ability and regular ball recoveries.

He has shown maturity beyond his years and United are already monitoring him closely. It has been reported that they could break their transfer record to sign him this summer.
