Man Utd need a clear upgrade on Anthony Martial after disappointing display at Brighton

Manchester United need a clear upgrade on Anthony Martial up front following his disappointing performance against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has been in-and-out of the line-up this term amid his injury concerns. Since his recent comeback, he has registered just one assist from seven league outings.

The 27-year-old has lacked the cutting edge in front of goal and we saw another unconvincing display last night where the Seagulls won with a last-minute penalty.

Martial played 84 minutes at the Amex Stadium but managed just one shot on target. He played a nice one-two with Fred to get into the box but his effort was straight at the goalkeeper.

Aside from this, he completed just 17 passes, winning only two out of seven duels. The Frenchman lost possession on nine occasions and was pretty poor with his hold-up play.

There was one point in the game where manager Erik ten Hag was livid with Martial and we won’t be surprised if the striker drops to the bench for the trip to West Ham United.

United need a clear upgrade on Martial this summer

Martial has registered seven goals and three assists from 1,200 minutes for United this season but most of his goal involvements have come off the bench.

The £36 million signing has been largely ineffective when he has started games for the Red Devils. It is quite clear that United need an upgrade this summer.

The club require a genuine goalscoring striker to become serious contenders for the top-flight title.

United are currently considering Harry Kane, Randal Kolo Muani and Victor Osimhen for the centre-forward role. One of those would be a fantastic acquisition.

Osimhen is probably the perfect fit for a back-to-goal striker but Muani would be more suitable if Ten Hag is eyeing more creativity from his main forward.

A move for Kane can’t be ruled out either. Ten Hag is an admirer of the Englishman. He values his proven goalscoring record in English football over the years.
