Manchester United must make a statement signing in January if they hope to strengthen their top-four charge in the Premier League this season.
According to The Athletic, Antoine Semenyo could leave Bournemouth in January, with his release clause formally set at £65 million.
That figure drops even further if the Bournemouth winger chooses to leave in the summer of 2026.
The Cherries are described as “powerless”, as the release clause was inserted when Semenyo signed his new deal in July, tying him down until 2030.
Semenyo has been in breathtaking form this season, with six goals and three assists in 11 league games.
He is only behind goal machine Erling Haaland in terms of goals and assists this campaign.
Man United were highly interested in signing the 25-year-old in the summer but declined to solidify their interest due to a steep asking price.
They even reached an agreement on personal terms with the Ghanaian international before pivoting to Bryan Mbeumo instead.
It was also reported that United head coach Ruben Amorim personally met Semenyo over dinner, highlighting the club’s serious admiration.
Semenyo is a versatile forward who is capable of playing across the frontline.
He looks tailor-made for Amorim’s 3-4-3 set-up, as he could occupy either of the two number 10 positions.
Like Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, Semenyo is fully Premier League-proven and already performing at an elite level.
He delivered 19 goal contributions in 42 appearances last season, helping Bournemouth secure an impressive ninth-place finish.
United lack quality depth in their attack, an issue that will only intensify if they qualify for European football next season.
Although signing a midfielder appears to be January’s top priority, the club should immediately shift their focus towards securing Semenyo.
They may never get another chance to sign a Premier League-ready star of this calibre at such a favourable price.
