Manchester United have been struggling badly this season.
They have already been knocked out of the League Cup and are currently six points behind the top four in the Premier League.
The recent 4-3 loss at FC Copenhagen means they could also suffer an early elimination from the Champions League.
The Red Devils’ forwards have failed to fire, but their defence is also in disarray, having conceded 16 goals in 11 league matches.
This is just one less than Manchester City and Arsenal have conceded between them.
Lisandro Martinez is currently sidelined with an injury and is not expected to return to action before Christmas. Raphael Varane has been in poor form.
Manager Erik ten Hag has played Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in central defence, but it is quite clear they need to sign an upgrade.
Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo or Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo would represent a perfect solution but a deal for either player would be expensive.
Man United need to ship out Lindelof
Financial Fair Play restrictions mean United must sell someone before bringing in a new player.
They should offload Victor Lindelof to raise funds to sign a new defender in January or the summer transfer window.
Lindelof isn’t the first-choice centre-back, but he has been an important squad player for the Red Devils.
He has started seven Premier League matches this season and is generally a reliable performer.
However, he doesn’t inspire much confidence in one-on-one situations.
United could rake in around £25 million by selling the 29-year-old to Bayern Munich, who are in the market for a centre-back.
Lindelof is not on massive wages, unlike Harry Maguire, and finding a suitor for him should be easy.
