Manchester United must enter the race to sign Benfica defender Antonio Silva this summer amid the growing interest from elite European clubs.
The 19-year-old only made his Benfica debut in September last year but he has already developed into a key player for them with several stand-out performances.
Last month, it was reported that Real Madrid were keeping a close eye on him. There is now further interest from Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
In our opinion, United must enter the pursuit of the Portuguese wonderkid ahead of the summer.
Silva is a centre-back with world-class potential
The teenager has been brilliant at the heart of the defence for Benfica this season. He has completed a stunning 92 per cent passes per game with four long balls.
Silva has also won nearly two tackles and three clearances per outing. He has also been strong in the air, winning an impressive 61 per cent of his aerial duels.
At just 19, the Portuguese has shown plenty of maturity and he definitely has the potential to become a world-class central defender in the next few seasons.
United currently have Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as the regular centre-backs, but the former has been injury prone throughout his long career.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are the back-up choices, but there is a genuine possibility that both could leave this summer in the search for more minutes.
This could force United to invest in the department and Silva would be a brilliant marquee addition.
Silva, who has been dubbed as the ‘new Ruben Dias‘ by Goal, is unlikely to come on the cheap. He has a £88 million release clause in his deal. Benfica may not accept anything less for him this summer.
