Man Utd most interested in signing Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez

Manchester United are the most interested club in signing Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez during this summer’s transfer window, Mexican outlet W Deportes claim.

The Red Devils are expected to pursue a new striker ahead of next season, considering Anthony Martial’s fitness issues over the course of the current campaign.

The club have been linked with several high-profile names including Harry Kane but W Deportes cite that United are keeping a close eye on Gimenez’s progress.

The Mexican joined Feyenoord from Cruz Azul last summer and he has had an impressive debut season with 18 goals and four assists from 37 appearances.

W Deportes claim that United have not only watched the player in action but have also made ‘first contact’ with the player’s entourage over a transfer.

Brighton & Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on him but United are the ‘most interested’ club in signing the Mexican, who has a €20 million release clause in his contract.

Gimenez is an interesting target for United

The 21-year-old was a relatively unknown player before his move to Feyenoord. He has certainly enhanced his reputation over the course of the ongoing season.

The Mexican had a slow start to the campaign with the Eredivisie outfit but his form has been quite impressive since the World Cup with regular goal contributions.

United were reportedly monitoring him in the recent game versus Ajax and it now appears they are in contact with his camp over a potential move this summer.

In our opinion, the Red Devils should pursue two strikers in the next transfer window with suggestions that Martial could be sold at the end of the campaign.

The hierarchy should target a marquee striker such as Kane or Victor Osimhen to lead the line regularly. Gimenez could be a handy deputy to be used in rotation.

Manchester City have been hugely successful with a similar approach. Erling Braut Haaland has been the main man up front with Julian Alvarez being his deputy.

If United want to seriously challenge for the Premier League title next season, they should sign more than one striker during the summer transfer window.
