Manchester United are considering a move for one of Monaco’s best players, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Red Devils recently cooled their interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. They have no plans of meeting the £52 million asking price.
The club are looking at alternative options and it is reported that they are weighing up a deal for Youssouf Fofana, who has agreed personal terms with AC Milan.
The 25-year-old recently snubbed a transfer offer from West Ham United, but it is claimed that he would not turn down United as their project is as ‘ambitious’ as Milan.
The Red Devils have a clear advantage at the moment with Milan reluctant to pay over £13m.
Fofana would be a solid midfield acquisition for United
Casemiro recently had a poor outing against Liverpool. He conceded possession on 16 occasions while winning only 28 percent of his duels. He was dribbled past thrice.
The Red Devils clearly need an upgrade on the Brazilian who looks past his prime. Fofana does not possess the strong distribution skills of Ugarte, but would still be a good signing.
The midfielder won an impressive 7.2 duels per league game last season with 1.9 tackles and 4.7 duels won. He also completed 60 percent of his take-ons for Monaco.
Monaco have raised their asking price to £30m amid interest from United as well as Atletico. With Atletico about to sign Conor Gallagher, United could have a free run.
This could help them negotiate a lower fee for the France international. United have to be quick in their pursuit such that they don’t face competition from elsewhere.
