Man Utd look set to miss out on Sofyan Amrabat due to his La Liga preference

Manchester United look set to miss out on Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat amid his desire to join either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Morocco international had a tremendous season for club and country, and he is now expected to pursue a bigger challenge away from Florence.

It was recently reported that United could go head-to-head with Barcelona to sign the €40 million-rated star, but the player favours a move to La Liga.

According to Sport, Amrabat has his priority to play in Spain. He is waiting for Barcelona and remains hopeful that they can generate funds to sign him.

If not, the 26-year-old could choose to join Atletico, who have also expressed an interest in his services.

Man Utd suffer blow in Amrabat pursuit

Amrabat has had an impressive 12 months for Fiorentina and Morocco. He was brilliant at the World Cup, and was a pivotal figure in his country’s run to the semi-final.

The defensive midfielder continued his good work for La Viola this year. He played a big part in their run to the Coppa Italia and Europa Conference League finals.

The Serie A outfit failed to win any silverware, but Amrabat has hugely built his reputation. Last season, he completed 90 per cent of his passes with 4.6 long balls.

His concentration and positioning from the number six role are his main strengths. Amrabat would be a perfect competitor to Casemiro at United, but a deal seems unlikely.

The midfielder clearly has plans of moving to the Spanish top-flight. His reasons could be personal. He may want to stay in close proximity of his family in Morocco.
