Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace ended Manchester City’s record winning streak in the Premier League with a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park today.
The Southeast London side frustrated the runaway Premier League leaders and created several good opportunities of their own before seeing a penalty saved in the 90th minute.
In the final minutes of the game, BT Sport co-commentator gave the man of the match to Manchester United loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
The right-back was making his third Premier League start of the month having not featured since 5 November prior. He had Manchester City winger, any many fans’ candidate for the PFA Team of the Year, Leroy Sane, in his pocket.
In the 13th minute the 19-year-old held up the winger and forced him into a mistake when City had a 3-on-2 counter attack. Later he tricked the German international into running out of play. Timothy Fosu-Mensah also made blocks and prevented crosses getting through.
Towards the end of the first half, after taking the ball past Sane himself, Fosu-Mensah wasn’t far off with putting Christian Benteke through one-on-one with a ball from deep inside his own half.
Former United winger Wilfried Zaha won a penalty in the final minute when he went down following slight contact from Raheem Sterling inside the penalty area. However, Luka Milivojevic’s effort straight down the middle was saved by goalkeeper Ederson. Kevin De Bruyne was chopped down by Jason Puncheon on the ensuing counter attack and was stretchered off in a knee brace.
This 0- 0 draw ends Manchester City’s record of 18 straight Premier League victories.
Interestingly, Timothy Fosu-Mensah played the final five minutes of our 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium last April which was the last time before today that Manchester City had failed to score in the Premier League.
