Man Utd lining up 2 transfer deals with Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has not settled on a single player in the left-back role since taking charge at Manchester United last summer.

Daley Blind and Ashley Young have both split time in this role in the Premier League this season whilst Luke Shaw also got a 45-minute run out versus Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last month.  Matteo Darmian is another option here as will Marcos Rojo be once he returns from injury.

Despite all the options the boss doesn’t seem keen on any of them as the long-term successor in this position.  Blind appears to be more of a squad player whilst Young has been playing that role for a number of seasons for us now.  Luke Shaw’s future lies outside of Manchester United, and I don’t see Mourinho keeping Darmian or Rojo around for much longer either.

Danny Rose was our number one target for this position over the summer but nothing ever materialised.  The rumours continue to remain strong to the point that it seems like it’s just a matter of time before the 27-year-old becomes a Manchester United player.

The Sun are today reporting that we’re readying a £50 million January move for the England international.  Rose is yet to play a single game for Tottenham this season due to injury but returned to training on Thursday.

Danny Rose is in Spurs’ Champions League squad so it will be interesting to see if Mauricio Pochettino will select him once he returns from injury, if indeed we are to make a move in the winter transfer window.  Playing just a single minute in the group stage for Spurs would make him ineligible for us in the knock out stages if we do sign Rose in January.

Ben Davies has been Spurs’ starting left-back this season whilst Jan Vertonghen can play in this position if needed.  However, should Spurs indeed sell Rose it’s likely they will want to find an out-and-out replacement, given that Vertonghen’s role is a starter in the centre of their defence.

The report in the Sun goes on to say that Luke Shaw is keen on a reunion with Spurs boss Pochettino, who handed him his Premier League debut as a 17-year-old whilst they were together at Southampton.  Shaw became a regular in the Saints’ first team before Louis van Gaal brought him to United in 2014.

They even go on to say that Shaw would take a ‘significant hit’ on his £160,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford to make the move happen.

Granted, the Sun is hardly the most reliable transfer news source in the world but with Mourinho keen on bringing Danny Rose to United, a swap deal seems like a great deal for both clubs and both players.  We’ll have to wait and see how this story develops between now and the January transfer window.
