Man Utd leading race for 11-goal forward

Manchester United are now leading the race for Bayer 04 Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, according to reports this morning.

The 20-year-old scored the only goal of the game as his side were 1-0 winners away to SC Freiburg on Friday night.

Victory temporarily moved Leverkusen into third in the Bundesliga, prior to Borussia Monchengladbach’s win on Sunday and ahead of Monday’s game between FC Koln and RB Leipzig.

In the process, Havertz took his tally up to five goals in four games since football in Germany restarted a fortnight ago, and 11 on the season in total.

Kai Havertz has been deployed in the striker role in recent weeks but also spends much of his time as a right forward in Roger Schmidt’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Whilst Manchester United are being strongly linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Leverkusen’s star is also being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The seven-time Germany international turns 21 next week and fits the profile of a player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would sign – young, pacey and with an eye for goal.

Solskjaer has been very positive in the transfer market so far – the latest of those being Bruno Fernandes, who proved to be a sensation prior to the Premier League’s suspension on 13 March.

Last summer the Norwegian boss brought in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James of whom were all having very productive seasons too.

The Sun are reporting that we are leading the way in the chase for Kai Havertz and are expected to start the bidding with a £50 million offer.

Manchester United are set to restart our 2019-20 Premier League campaign on the weekend of 20 June 2020.
