Manchester United are keeping tabs on Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who has decided against signing a new contract, The Athletic reports.
Kamara has spent his entire career with the French outfit, but he has decided to move on.
He has snubbed a new deal and will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.
The 22-year-old is open to a fresh challenge overseas. He was on the radar of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United last summer but turned down their advances.
The midfielder is eyeing a bigger challenge, and it is reported that United are keeping a close eye on his situation.
Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also reportedly interested.
Our view:
United are likely to pursue a new defensive midfielder next year, and there have been claims that they could sign RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara during the January transfer window.
Irrespective of this, they could have an interest in Kamara, who is regarded as one of Ligue 1’s most promising midfielders.
The Frenchman has also played as a central defender.
Kamara does not have a significant aerial presence at 184 cms, but he has been solid with his tackling and distribution.
He has successfully completed 91 percent of his passes in the current campaign.
At 22, there is plenty of room for development for Kamara. Aside from a sizeable wage package, he would be available for almost nothing next summer as Marseille will only be owed a small FIFA training compensation.
United may need to move fast to land his services. While Barcelona are facing financial difficulties, United could face competition from Bayern.
Kamara can negotiate a pre-contract with a foreign club from January.
