Manchester United are widely-expected to bring in more defenders during the summer transfer window.
So far we have only brought in 19-year-old Diogo Dalot from FC Porto to add to our defence whilst Jose Mourinho is expected to bring in at least one centre-back and potentially a new left-back.
We have been linked to a number of names around Europe this summer, including Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.
However, reports from Italy now state that Jose is keeping an eye on AC Milan pair Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli.
The Italian giants were recently banned from competing in Europe for two years after breaching Financial Fair Play rules, which has led to speculation a number of their top stars could be sold within the next 12 months. This is on top of their poor financial situation.
Despite Milan’s failure to finish in the top four once again last season, both Bonucci and Romagnoli are two highly-rated centre-backs.
Currently the boss has a number of options in his squad, but has never seemed keen on either Phil Jones nor Chris Smalling as regulars in his first team, whilst Victor Lindelof struggled in his debut Premier League campaign. That has left us with Eric Bailly as our only reliable centre-back.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Calcio Mercato) are reporting that both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have expressed a keen interest in Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli and we could battle it out head-to-head for their services over the next month.
31-year-old Bonucci has only been at the San Siro for a single season following his move from Juventus last summer where he won six Scudetto‘s in seven seasons at the Italian giants. He has 80 caps for the Italian national team and has been one of the best defenders around Europe over the past decade.
Club teammate Romagnoli has been touted to go on to achieve big things in his career and is only 23 years of age. He has seven caps for the Italian national team and has been with AC Milan for three seasons following a move from AS Roma.
