Man Utd keeping tabs on Denzel Dumfries as Inter eye replacement

Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Denzel Dumfries as Inter weigh up a replacement for him, Calciomercato report.

The Red Devils currently have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the regular right-backs, but neither of them made a goal contribution last term.

Dalot has shown promise during the ongoing pre-season, but manager Erik ten Hag may still want a new right-back with a better creative presence.

Dumfries would be an ideal fit for United in this aspect. Calciomercato claim that both United and Chelsea are keeping tabs on him.

Inter need to recoup around €60 million (£50.5m) from player sales, and it is claimed that Dumfries is free to leave the club for €40m (£33.6m).

The Nerazzurri are yet to receive any formal transfer proposals, but they have already started ground work to find Dumfries’ successor.

Dumfries’ deal depends on Wan-Bissaka leaving

Wan-Bissaka has been a solid performer for United over the past three years, but his limited attacking prowess may not suit Ten Hag’s system.

Hence, there are suggestions that he could make way, but the big question is whether United will receive a suitable proposal over the coming weeks.

It is unlikely that they will recoup the £50m fee paid to Crystal Palace. The club may need to cut their losses or accept a season-long loan deal.

If they were manage to do either, a move for Dumfries could open up, but United need to act fast with fierce competition from Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Chelsea were interested in Dumfries during negotiations to loan out Romelu Lukaku to Inter, and have recently revived their transfer pursuit.

The Nerazzurri are already ‘expecting‘ a formal offer from the Blues, though the London side are reluctant to meet the reported price tag.

United must speed up the progress of Wan-Bissaka’s exit. Dumfries would be a superb acquisition for the club with his solid attacking attributes.

He started his career as a traditional right-back, but over the past 12 months, he has operated at right wing-back for club and country.

Dumfries should not have any difficulties in switching to a back four as Ten Hag’s style of play is based on full-backs making regular overlapping runs.

The Dutchman registered five goals and seven assists from 45 outings for Inter in his debut season last term. He would be a perfect fit for United.
