Man Utd keeping tabs on Christos Mouzakitis ahead of January transfer window

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis ahead of the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

The Red Devils primarily focused on strengthening their attacking department last summer.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko were signed alongside goalkeeper Senne Lammens and young left-back Diego Leon.

United have been touted to bolster their midfield next year, and The Sun claim that the club are weighing up a possible move for Olympiacos’ Mouzakitis.

It is added that the Greek champions won’t sanction his sale for less than £40 million this winter.

Mouzakitis does not suit United’s requirements

The 18-year-old had a fantastic breakthrough campaign at Olympiacos last term. He registered seven goal contributions from 38 appearances in all competitions.

The youngster has continued his good form this season with two assists from 13 outings, and was recently voted as the Golden Boy Web winner by the fans.

Mouzakitis is undoubtedly talented, but the Red Devils need a different profile of a player. The teenager primarily plays as a central playmaker for Olympiacos.

He has caught the eye with his forward distribution and fine dribbling skills. However, United are yearning for a holding midfielder who can provide more ball control.

The club need a proper upgrade on Casemiro, who is no longer in his prime. Manuel Ugarte has failed to meet expectations since his move from Paris Saint-Germain.

Judging by recent reports, United could halt their midfielder pursuit until next summer when the likes of Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba may become available.

Anderson is regarded as the priority midfield target for the Red Devils, while they are also expected to revive their pursuit of Baleba after last summer’s setback.
