Manchester United are one of three clubs including Newcastle United and Arsenal, who are keeping tabs on Celta Vigo playmaker Gabri Veiga, AS report (page 20).
The Red Devils have had a superb transitional season under manager Erik ten Hag and there should be another huge spending spree in the next transfer window.
A new striker and a right-back are among the top priorities, but the club could also consider signing a young playmaker to provide back-up to Bruno Fernandes.
It is now reported by AS that United are closely monitoring 20-year-old Veiga, who has bagged six goals and two assists from 21 La Liga appearances this season.
Aside from United, Newcastle and Arsenal are also monitoring the highly-rated Spanish youngster, who could be sold by Celta for €30 million in the summer.
Veiga could be Fernandes’ understudy at Man Utd
Fernandes has been tremendous for the Red Devils since the World Cup with several goal contributions, but his workload needs to be managed in future.
Donny van de Beek hardly impressed in the number 10 role during the first half of the season and he is now sidelined for the long-term after a knee surgery.
In our view, Veiga would be an ideal long-term signing. The youngster has the ability to score goals from outside the box. He has also caught the eye with his dribbling.
Veiga has completed 80 per cent of his passes this term which is pretty good, considering he is someone who is willing to create and take chances in the final third.
At 20, he has plenty of room for improvement. If United can convince Celta to accept performance add-ons to reduce the fee, it could be a good piece of business.
