Manchester United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Besiktas’ rising star Semih Kilicsoy this summer, according to Turkish-Football.
The 18-year-old has been in sensational form for the Turkish giants since his breakthrough in December. He has registered nine goals and one assist in his last 10 league appearances.
His pace, movement and finishing ability have caught the eye of several European clubs. Turkish-Football claim that United are the latest side to express an interest after the Gunners.
The Red Devils are keen on adding young and dynamic forwards to their squad and Kilicsoy fits the requirements. He is predominantly a striker, but can also play on the left and right wing.
The teenager won’t be easy to prise away this summer with Besiktas expected to demand a significant fee. They have reportedly set a huge €50 million price tag for his services.
United expected to pursue new striker this summer
The Red Devils are expected to land a new centre-forward this summer with Anthony Martial set to head for the exit door when his contract expires at the end of June.
Martial has had plenty of injury concerns during the second half of his United career. The hierarchy have no plans of triggering an extension clause in his present deal.
United will save around €15m with the decision and they could utilise the funds for the purchase of a young striker, who can compete and provide cover to Rasmus Hojlund.
Kilicsoy does not have the aerial presence of Hojlund, but he has impressed with his pace, quick dribbling and ability to find the back of the net which is the main role for a striker.
The youngster has made an equal number of appearances on either wing this term. His versatility could be a main factor behind United’s interest in signing him this summer.
The big question is whether the club would be willing to make a huge outlay of €50 million on him.
With Financial Fair Play concerns, United need player sales to improve their summer transfer budget.
At the moment, a right centre-back and a defensive midfielder seem as higher priorities for the Red Devils. A move for Kilicsoy could depend on the club’s financial situation.
Kilicsoy would be a good long-term investment for United. He is already turning heads across Europe at 18 and has the potential to become an elite forward over coming seasons.
