Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka, but he has no plans of leaving the club, Abend Zeitung report.
The Red Devils have already signed a creative midfielder in Mason Mount from Chelsea. They could invest on a more defensive-minded midfielder in the coming weeks.
Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has been heavily linked with the Red Devils, but Abend Zeitung claim that manager Erik ten Hag has an interest in Goretzka.
The 28-year-old has played a minimal role for Bayern during pre-season, but he has not shown any desire to consider a fresh challenge away from the club.
Meanwhile, the midfielder has not received any indications that Bayern are looking to offload him.
Hence, a move to Old Trafford does not appear on the cards. United and Ten Hag may need to convince the player to join them before the transfer deadline.
Amrabat is a better choice than Goretzka
Goretzka is currently not keen on a move to United. We believe the German won’t be a good signing for the Red Devils compared to Amrabat this summer.
The German can play in the central and holding midfield roles, but his distribution is not excellent. He had a passing accuracy of only 83 per cent in Bundesliga last term.
Amrabat is more comfortable with the ball at his feet and completed 90 per cent of his passes in Serie A. He is also one-and-a-half years younger than Goretzka.
Aside from this, Amrabat is a far more affordable signing than Goretzka. While the Moroccan could be signed for €30 million, the German may cost at least €40m.
Amrabat’s wages are quite low at €36,000-a-week and United could easily treble his salary.
On the other hand, Goretzka is already on €346,000 per week. The club may have to make him the highest earner in the squad to convince him over a transfer.
Hence, it seems a no-brainer decision to sign Amrabat over Goretzka, who is also injury-prone. The German star has missed 63 games over the last five seasons.
