Manchester United are interested in signing Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso this summer, according to Italian outlet Tuttojuve.
The Red Devils will likely make multiple changes to the squad this summer and most of the focus could be on the defensive department.
A marquee centre-back could be signed, with Raphael Varane set to leave on a free transfer.
The club may also recruit a new left-back after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggled with injuries this season.
A right-back could also be signed to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He could be sold with his contract expiring in 2025.
With Aston Villa reportedly not interested in Cambiaso, United are ‘on the trail’ to sign the former Genoa star.
However, the Bianconeri are not considering a sale at the moment. They consider him ‘untransferable’ ahead of the transfer window.
The Turin giants plan to open talks with the Italy international over a new long-term deal.
United should tempt Juventus with a swap deal
United could strengthen their full-back department during the close season. Cambiaso appears a good fit with his ability to play on both flanks.
The 24-year-old had a passing accuracy of 88 percent in Serie A last term. He primarily played as a wing-back for most of the season, registering three goals and six assists.
His attacking attributes would suit Erik ten Hag’s playing style. However, it appears the Bianconeri are reluctant to lose him on the back of a fine campaign.
The Red Devils could tempt the Bianconeri with a swap deal for Cambiaso.
The Serie A heavyweights are interested in signing Mason Greenwood. United’s hierarchy should propose a straight-exchange deal with Cambiaso moving the other way.
This would benefit United, who could have a pre-sales budget of only £35 million this summer, considering they won’t be playing in the Champions League next season.
