Manchester United are discussing internally about an approach for Atalanta midfielder Ederson this month, according to Goal Brasil.
The Red Devils are planning to reinforce their squad this winter and they are looking at multiple options. A new midfielder appears as one of their main priorities.
Goal Brasil claim that Ederson has been highlighted as a ‘promising name’ by United and the club have already ‘made contact’ with the 24-year-old’s entourage.
Erik ten Hag’s side have yet to make a formal proposal to Atalanta, but they are considering sending a proposal to sign the Brazilian ace.
Ederson was signed for €15m from Salernitana in 2022. He has a high release clause in his Atalanta contract which remains undisclosed.
United have tough task of convincing Atalanta to sell Ederson
The Serie A outfit are known to be tough negotiators and United saw an example over the summer.
The club were aiming to land Rasmus Hojlund for around €60m, but they were eventually compelled to pay €85m including add-ons to sign the Denmark international.
Taking this into mind, a move for Ederson seems unlikely on the cards. Atalanta could easily ask for €40-50m for the midfielder which United may not afford this winter.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has yet to receive approval from the Premier League over his minority investment, but he is not planning any major signings in the current transfer window.
The club are focused on loan deals for now. RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner has recently emerged as a realistic target for the Red Devils as they look to find a fresh solution up front.
