Man Utd interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson

Manchester United are interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson during the summer transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 24-year-old is currently in his second season at the Bergamo outfit. He has been almost ever-present, registering six goals and one assist from 38 appearances.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are said to be eyeing a summer deal for the Brazilian, but they are not alone and face plenty of competition from other clubs.

United are one of those interested in the ‘talented‘ midfielder, but it could take around €50 million to prise him away from Atalanta this summer.

Ederson may not suit the requirements of United

The Brazilian ace has the ability to play from the defensive and central midfield positions, but he is most comfortable operating from the number six role.

In the current Serie A season, Ederson has impressed defensively with an average of 2.6 tackles and 5.1 duels won with 5.6 ball recoveries and 1.2 interceptions.

Despite this, he may not suit the requirements of United. Ederson is not a strong ball-playing midfielder. He averages 38 passes per game with an accuracy of 84 per cent.

United are likely to pursue a marquee holding midfielder this summer, but may also want someone who is better with the ball at his feet than Atalanta’s Ederson.

The club have been closely tracking the performances of Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves. The teenager would be the perfect fit to succeed Casemiro next term.

He will cost a premium fee of more than €100m, but it would be a worthwhile investment with his maturity at his age as well as his immense potential.
