Manchester United are one of the top European clubs interested in AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to RMC Sport.
The Red Devils have been tipped to sign a new defensive midfielder, and Boubacar Kamara appears a prime target for the summer.
Tchouameni is another player that has made plenty of headlines lately following a terrific year for club and country.
Monaco are yet to set a price tag for the 22-year-old, but they are reluctant to lose him before the transfer window closes on Monday.
However, it is reported that a summer departure could be ‘inevitable’. United are one of the clubs in the running to sign him.
The club have made contact with his agents over a possible transfer.
Our view:
Tchouameni had his best campaign with Monaco last term, registering three goals and four assists from 42 appearances across all competitions.
While he chipped in with key goal contributions, he was also excellent defensively for the Principality outfit, who finished third in Ligue 1.
He has continued his fine form this term with 2.9 tackles and 2.7 interceptions per game while winning two aerial duels on average.
Tchouameni also likes to have more of the ball with 62.4 passes per appearance and does not shy away from taking shots on goal.
He is an all-round midfielder with a bright future ahead, and there is bound to be plenty of competition for his services this summer.
United could potentially form a dream pairing with him playing alongside Kamara, but it appears unlikely that they will pursue two midfielders.
It could be one or the other this summer. Kamara will be available on a free transfer unlike Tchouameni, who will have two years left on his contract.
He is valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt, but Monaco are likely to make the most of the interest to drive up his asking price.
Paul Pogba recently praised Tchouameni for his ‘extraordinary‘ technical and physical quality after playing alongside him for France.
However, it won’t be a surprise if the youngster comes in to replace him amid his reluctance to pen a new contract beyond June.
