Man Utd ‘intensifying’ their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha

Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha amid interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid, according to Sky Sport Germany.

The Red Devils have already secured a verbal agreement to land Atalanta’s Ederson, but they are aiming to land at least another marquee midfield signing in the coming weeks.

West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes has been a priority target, but the club are far from reaching an agreement due to the Hammers’ hefty £85 million asking price.

On top of this, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for the Portugal international. The London side could be prepared to pay closer to the valuation set by the Hammers.

Amidst this, Sky in Germany claim that United are ‘intensifying’ their efforts to land Nmecha, and head of scouting Christopher Vivell is in close contact with the player’s agents.

There is still no guarantee that the 25-year-old will leave Dortmund this summer. He only signed a new long-term deal in March this year, without a release clause until June 2027.

Man Utd could struggle to prise Nmecha away from Dortmund

Nmecha started his playing career with arch-rivals Manchester City. He trained at their academy between the ages of seven and 19 before making three appearances for the senior side.

The German eventually decided to join Wolfsburg. He established himself as a key player for the Bundesliga outfit before making the switch to Dortmund for £26 million upfront.

Nmecha has since progressed to become a regular starter for the national side. He has been brilliant at the World Cup, winning six duels and four tackles per game alongside three recoveries.

The midfielder has also chipped in with one goal and an assist. His performances will no doubt have caught United’s eye amid the ongoing impasse with West Ham regarding Fernandes.

Still, we don’t see a deal happening unless United are prepared to spend a significant fee.

Nmecha has a £69 million release clause for next summer, which will drop to £60m in 2028. Dortmund plan to hold out for £86m to sanction his departure in the current transfer window.

United have shown a reluctance to meet a similar fee for Fernandes. Nmecha would be a top-class acquisition, but the price tag could prove prohibitive towards securing an agreement.
