Manchester United are in the front row to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The Red Devils are likely to pursue a new striker in the upcoming transfer window and they have been linked with numerous names.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane was initially deemed as the leading target but Spurs remain reluctant to sell to a direct Premier League rival.
It was recently claimed that United have held talks with the agent of Hojlund and Tuttomercatoweb report that the club are favourites.
The Red Devils are in the ‘front row’ to land the young Danish star and ‘contacts have intensified’ with Atalanta over the last few hours.
However, it is quite clear that it would take €50 million to convince the Bergamo outfit to sit at the negotiation table for the striker.
Hojlund could be a future star at United
Compared to the likes of Kane and Victor Osimhen, Hojlund is just in the development stage of his career but he has plenty of potential.
This season, he has registered 15 goals and seven assists in all competitions. Out of those, nine goals and four assists have come in the Atalanta shirt.
The 20-year-old is still learning his trade but has been likened to Erling Haaland as he is left-footed, possesses brilliant pace and a physical presence.
It is only a matter of time before he starts to find real consistency and United seem determined to sign him as soon as possible due to his true potential.
In today’s transfer market, €50m is a fairly reasonable price for a starlet. United would ideally like to lower the fee to €35m but Atalanta may refuse to negotiate.
They could try to pay a lesser fee up front with future add-ons. The other alternative could be to send one of their graduates on loan to get a small discount.
