Man Utd in advanced stages of transfer talks for key target

Manchester United have made three signings so far this summer and continue to be linked to a number of other players this summer.

Central midfielder Fred, full-back Diogo Dalot and goalkeeper Lee Grant have all joined the ranks at Old Trafford.

We are still expected to sign a new centre-back before we start our 2018-19 Premier League campaign, whilst a number of left-backs and right wingers have been strongly linked also.

One of those wingers is Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, who was also linked with a move to us both last summer and during this January’s winter transfer window.  Jose Mourinho has previously stated that he is an admirer of the pacey winger.

Jose used a number of players on the right wing for us last season but never appeared settle on any individual.  Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard were some of the players used out wide.  So a new right winger could certainly be one of the boss’ priorities this summer.

Now the Manchester Evening News understand that transfer talks with the Spanish giants have reached an advanced stage.

Bale was in and out of Zinedine Zidane’s team last season leading to strong speculation that the Welsh winger would leave this summer.  However, the French legend made a shock resignation after winning the Champions League last season and was subsequently replaced by Julen Lopetegui.  It is not known whether Gareth Bale is in the new head coach’s plans or not.

Real Madrid agreed to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in an £88 million deal earlier this week but could replace the Portuguese superstar with either Neymar, Eden Hazard or Kylian Mbappe.  This would not help Bale’s chances of becoming a first team regular again at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as he is already competing with Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vasquez as it is.

It would be excellent news for us if Real Madrid would consider selling the 28-year-old and that the Manchester Evening News’ report is accurate that Ed Woodward and co are in advanced stages of transfer talks.  We’ll have to wait and see over the coming days or weeks to see how this one develops…
