Manchester United are planning a summer move for Everton forward Richarlison as they aim to bolster their attacking department, Goal claims.
The Red Devils have experienced an average Premier League campaign thus far, and they are presently sixth in the standings, four points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.
While their defensive woes have continued to exist, United have also struggled in the final third in recent months, paving the way for draws against teams that they should comfortably beat.
This could see them enter the transfer market for at least one new forward. Goal reports that they have their sights on Richarlison, who is also attracting interest from Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.
Our view:
Richarlison has been a key player for the Toffees in recent years, but his statistics are not overly impressive. He has not netted more than 13 goals in a single Premier League campaign.
He has played nearly 50 per cent of his games from the centre-forward role. United definitely need a better option if they are to close the gap on their Premier League rivals competing for silverware.
Aside from the striker role, the £49.5 million-rated star can also play out wide, but has barely succeeded from the right flank. He has made most goal contributions for the Toffees, operating from the left wing.
This is currently not a position which United need to bolster. Jadon Sancho was signed last summer to provide a solution on the right wing, but he is now excelling from the opposite flank.
The England star had a poor first half to the season, but has impressed with six goal contributions since the winter break. It won’t be a surprise if he makes the left-wing position his own.
A move for Richarlison does not appear worthwhile this summer. Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry appears a more suitable transfer target with his success from the right side of attack.
