Manchester United could spend on a new left-back following another injury setback for Luke Shaw.
Shaw picked up a calf injury on his return to pre-season training and United have confirmed that he won’t return to action until after the international break.
It is now reported by Sporx that United are challenging Brighton & Hove Albion in the race to sign Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu this month.
The Seagulls have agreed personal terms with the Turkey international and the 24-year-old is said to be keen on playing in the Premier League next term.
However, a deal won’t be straightforward. Brighton have proposed a higher fee than United with add-ons, but the Red Devils have offered the most money up front for Kadioglu.
Sporx claim that Fenerbahce president Ali Koc will make the final decision on which offer to accept.
United could be aiming to beat Brighton to Kadioglu
Kadioglu had a fantastic 2023/24 season with Fenerbahce. The Turkish star registered three goals and five assists from 51 appearances in all competitions.
He went on to shine for his country at the European Championship. The versatile full-back won a stunning seven duels per game with more than two key passes.
Kadioglu was brilliant with his overlapping runs from left-back, but also impressed defensively at the tournament with 3.6 tackles and five recoveries per game.
The Dutch-born star would be a fantastic acquisition. United need to persuade him to join them over Brighton. It remains to be seen whether that happens.
United recently signed Noussair Mazraoui who can operate from left-back. However, he has managed only 10 appearances from the position in his whole career.
Manager Erik ten Hag may want another specialist for the role and he has reportedly asked the club to secure the signature of Kadioglu from Jose Mourinho’s side.
