Man Utd have shown interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Manchester United have shown their interest in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer, according to Spanish publication Sport.

The Red Devils are likely to pursue a new holding midfielder amid suggestions that Casemiro could be offloaded at the end of the campaign.

Onana is reportedly one of the names on their radar and Sport claim that they are favourites alongside Arsenal to land the Belgium international.

The 22-year-old has also been linked with Barcelona, but the Catalan giants are only willing to pay €40 million – much less than the €60m asking price.

It is reported that both United and Arsenal have the capacity to cover the demands of the Toffees.

Onana would be a good acquisition for United

Onana has been fantastic from the number six role for the Toffees this term. He has won an impressive 65 per cent of his duels attempted.

The Belgian has also made 5.7 recoveries per outing, winning 2.5 tackles. He has caught the eye with his tireless work rate and positioning.

His passing still needs improvement (84 per cent) and that should happen with better quality players around him if he were to join United.

Casemiro has had a drastic dip in his performance levels this season and we believe Onana would be a quality player to replace the Brazilian.

Like Casemiro, Onana offers a set-piece threat. He has scored two headed goals from corners.

Hence, Onana would be a good acquisition for United if the club don’t have an overly large budget.

Benfica’s Joao Neves would be our preferred target if the hierarchy are prepared to spend higher sums. He has a €100m release clause in his deal.
