Manchester United were unable to bolster their midfield during the summer transfer window.
The club are likely to pursue a solution in January, given their tough start to the season.
Ukrainian journalist Volodymyr Zverov has now revealed that the Red Devils have a ‘very serious interest’ in signing Brentford midfielder Yehor Yarmolyuk.
He added that the Bees won’t resist the midfielder’s transfer if they receive an offer of £30 million.
He told Profutbol Digital: “I know about the very serious interest of Manchester United in the Ukrainian footballer. United definitely need to fix the problems in the midfield.
“And Brentford isn’t the club that will do everything in their power to keep Yarmolyuk, and they are ready to consider offers for the midfielder from £30m.
“United can be called a serious contender for Yarmolyuk.”
Yarmolyuk would be a clever investment for United
The Ukrainian signed for the Bees from Dnipro three years ago. He has become a regular starter in the Premier League this term under new manager Keith Andrews.
Yarmolyuk is a hard-working midfielder known for his tireless work rate and defensive contributions. He has averaged six recoveries and two tackles per game this season.
The 21-year-old has also caught the eye with his duel-winning ability and knack for clearing his lines.
Yarmolyuk can operate as a defensive or central midfielder. His versatility would suit the Red Devils.
United obviously have Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba as their priority midfield target, but the Seagulls have no plans to sell him until the end of the campaign at least.
The club ideally need two additions to their midfield department. They should pursue a deal for Yarmolyuk in January before making a huge outlay on Baleba next summer.
The big question remains whether Brentford would entertain a mid-season sale. They could also decide to keep hold of Yarmolyuk until May before contemplating his potential exit.
