Man Utd have practically closed signing of PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United are close to signing their top midfield target ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Red Devils have identified Manuel Ugarte as their priority choice to bolster the midfield and talks are currently ongoing with Paris Saint-Germain over the fee.

The 23-year-old has already agreed personal terms and Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the Uruguayan is ready to travel once a transfer deal is finalised.

It is now claimed by El Pais (via SportWitness) that the negotiations between United and PSG are ‘practically closed’ and only a few details need to be sorted.

The midfielder is expected to leave Paris for Manchester in the ‘next few hours’. El Pais add that ‘everything is on track’ for the ex-Sporting man to join United quickly.

United edging closer to Ugarte deal

The Red Devils reached an agreement to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli for £25 million yesterday.

The Scotland international has also agreed to join the Naples outfit and a transfer is expected to materialise following a small pay-off from the club.

This should speed up the pursuit of Ugarte. United were initially looking at a loan deal with an obligation to buy, but are now likely to finalise a permanent transfer.

The Red Devils will have to pay £51 million for the ‘tireless‘ star. In our opinion, the club are likely to settle the transfer fee over multiple years due to PSR concerns.

It appears only a matter of time before Ugarte makes the switch. The club could push through the deal once McTominay formally secures his move to Napoli.
