Manchester United have practically agreed a new long-term contract with Alejandro Garnacho, according to Spanish publication AS.
The 18-year-old has had a fine breakthrough season under manager Erik ten Hag, registering two goals and five assists from 22 appearances in all competitions.
Garnacho made the headlines before the World Cup break with his last-gasp winner at Fulham and recently bagged the winning assist in the Manchester derby.
It is now reported that United are on the verge of committing Garnacho to a fresh deal until June 2028. An extension is practically closed at the current point of time.
Image rights remain to be sorted but it is only a matter of time before he pens an improved contract.
Garnacho could turn into a world-class player
The Argentine barely played for United during pre-season. His attitude was not great and he reported late for a couple of team meetings. However, he has managed to work on himself.
Bruno Fernandes said that Garnacho was ‘fantastic‘ after the dramatic winner at Fulham but the youngster will have to stay patient to become a regular starter for the Red Devils.
Ten Hag does not want to rush Garnacho with regular minutes in the Premier League. He has been prepared to bring him off the bench such that he has the hunger to perform.
The Dutchman is the right manager to transform Garnacho into a world-class player in the long run. United fans should be delighted that he is now close to extending his stay.
A new contract should end the speculation linking him with the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
