Man Utd have interest in Sofyan Amrabat, has strong relationship with Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have an interest in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat due to his strong relationship with manager Erik ten Hag, Firenze Viola claim.

The Morocco international had a brilliant World Cup before the turn of the year, and it was anticipated that he could leave Fiorentina during the January transfer window.

United and Barcelona were among clubs keen on landing the 26-year-old, but La Viola dismissed his departure as they did not receive a permanent offer on the table.

It is now claimed that Amrabat has been offered to multiple Italian, Spanish and Saudi Arabian clubs.

In the Premier League, there is continuous interest from the Red Devils. Firenze Viola say that Ten Hag has a strong relationship with the player from their Utrecht days.

As things stand, there has been no concrete bid for the defensive midfielder. The Serie A outfit are open to parting ways with their prized asset for around €30 million.

A defensive midfielder is not a priority for Man Utd

United recently completed the purchase of Mason Mount from Chelsea after a lengthy negotiation.

The England international is expected to feature from the number eight role for the Red Devils. He should be an upgrade on Christian Eriksen with his better work rate and creativity.

The club’s focus is currently on landing goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan. Fabrizio Romano recently reported that United are confident of signing him by next weekend.

After Onana’s arrival, a new striker should be the next priority. Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund is the top target, and United are prepared to make an approach despite the limited budget.

The club are optimistic of recouping funds later on with player sales. In our view, a new defensive midfielder is not a priority at the moment, but the scenario could change in the coming weeks.

Fred is expected to be sold after Mount’s arrival. If Scott McTominay were to head for the exit door, the club may look to pursue a quality number six to provide back-up to Casemiro next season.

Amrabat would be perfect for the role with his strong distribution and defensive awareness, but the Moroccan star could be hesitant to join the club without regular playing time.

He also has the preference to join Barcelona this summer, having tried to push through a move to Camp Nou in January. United don’t face an easy task of luring him from Fiorentina.
