Man Utd have held talks with representatives of Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna

Manchester United have initiated discussions with representatives of Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, who consider him a possible successor to Erik ten Hag.

According to Sky Sports, McKenna’s agents met with United club officials last week.

The 38-year-old has served as assistant manager for United’s first team, where he worked under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick.

McKenna has earned plaudits for his great work with Ipswich Town, helping them achieve back-to-back promotions.

The Tractor Boys have secured a long-awaited return to the Premier League by finishing second in the Championship table, one point behind Leicester City.

Erik ten Hag’s United future hangs in the balance

Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with increasing speculation about his tenure following a poor season.

The Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League and were knocked out of the group stage of the Champions League.

They must beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday to secure European football for next season.

A defeat could persuade Sir Jim Ratcliffe to sack the Dutchman.

Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino have been ousted from their roles at Bayern Munich and Chelsea, respectively.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Roberto De Zerbi have also parted ways, paving the way for the Italian to seek new opportunities.

All three of them are candidates to replace Ten Hag if United’s hierarchy decides to move from him.

McKenna is another great option. He has achieved great success and his possession-based style has left everyone impressed.

Ipswich will be desperate to keep hold of McKenna, but the manager has only one year left on his current deal.

He prefers his team to play in a dynamic 4-2-3-1 shape, which could suit the present United set-up.

Ten Hag’s future will become clear after the FA Cup final against Man City.

The outcome of this highly anticipated clash could significantly influence United’s decision to retain the Dutchman or seek a new manager.
