Man Utd have held initial talks with Monaco over signing Youssouf Fofana

Manchester United are looking at multiple options to bolster their midfield.

The club were recently interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, but they have pulled out of talks. They have no intention of meeting the £52 million asking price.

Youssouf Fofana is one of the alternative choices on their radar and Sky Sports today report that United have held initial talks with Monaco over signing the France international.

Fofana would be a good signing for United

Ugarte was open to joining the Red Devils, but the price tag has put them off from signing him.

The club are now exploring alternatives. Fofana would be a good acquisition for the Red Devils, considering his strong defensive attributes which could suit the Premier League.

Fofana won an average of two tackles and 4.7 duels per game last season alongside 7.2 recoveries. He completed 60 percent of his dribbles and also impressed with his high pressing.

The Frenchman does have the tendency to lose possession, but he makes up for it with his tireless work rate. He would be a good upgrade on Casemiro and Scott McTominay.

Monaco raised their asking price to £30 million last month, but this should be within the affordability range of United. We won’t be surprised if the club push through a deal soon.

At 25, Fofana is just in the prime of his playing career. He would represent a much better signing than Sander Berge, who had an average debut campaign at Burnley last season.
