Manchester United have identified Goncalo Inacio as one of their top targets to reinforce the central defensive department, according to Record (page 8).
The Red Devils currently have Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire as the central defensive options in the first-team squad.
However, there is speculation that Maguire could move on in the summer and Record claim that United could reinforce the squad with at least one centre-back.
The same outlet report that Inacio is on the list of United. Sporting are braced for offers for the 21-year-old, who has a €45 million release clause in his contract.
Inacio would be a perfect fit for Man Utd
The Red Devils currently have just one left-footed central defender in the squad in Martinez.
Luke Shaw has stepped into the position with good effect in Martinez’s absence but manager Erik ten hag would ideally want another specialist in the squad.
In our opinion, Inacio would be the perfect fit for the position. The Portuguese is just in the early phase of his career and has plenty of room for development.
This season, he has completed an impressive 90 per cent of his passes while winning 1.2 tackles, 1.9 clearances and nearly four duels per appearance.
The 21-year-old is a centre-back who likes the ball at his feet. Ten Hag could use him in regular rotation with Martinez next season to balance the workload.
Sporting are currently aiming to increase his release clause to €80m and United may have to start talks with the defender’s entourage soon to persuade him.
